The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) opened a disciplinary case against the forward of Juventus Cristiano Ronaldo following the results of the match of the first round of the group stage of the Champions League with the Spanish Valencia – reports ESPN.
The case against the forward will be examined on September 27. The player will automatically miss the next match in the Champions League against Young boys (October 2), but his disqualification period may be extended.
On September 19, Ronaldo received a red card in the match against Valencia. Judge Felix Brych decided that the forward hit the face of the opponent’s defender Jeison Murillo, and disqualified the striker. Ronaldo left the field in tears.
Katia Aveiro, the sister of Cristiano Ronaldo, made a post on her Instagram commenting on her brother’s disqualification in a match against Valencia in the Champions League.
“Shame on our football. I believe that justice will prevail. They want to destroy my brother, but God never sleeps. They will pay for your tears, ” – wrote Aveiro.
For the 33-year-old player this red card was the first one in his career in the Champions League.
However, despite the absence of Cristiano, Juventus managed to win against Valencia with a score of 2:0. Both goals were scored by midfielder Miralem Pjanić.
